Royal Daffodil: Built on the Mersey, for the Mersey

Balaena is proud to have completed the build of the new Royal Daffodil at our Birkenhead shipyard.

Built on the banks of the River Mersey, the vessel represents more than a major delivery for Mersey Ferries. It is a clear demonstration that the skills, experience and ambition required to build complex vessels remain firmly established in Birkenhead.

Royal Daffodil brought together teams from across the yard, covering construction, engineering, integration, outfitting, commissioning and trials. The result is a vessel that will serve the Mersey for years to come while showcasing the capability that exists within UK shipbuilding today.

The project also carries a wider message.

Shipbuilding on the Mersey should not be seen simply as part of the region’s industrial heritage. The people, infrastructure, engineering knowledge and ambition are still here, and projects such as Royal Daffodil demonstrate what can be achieved when that capability is put to work.
